Instrument 008 · computed tomography

The Laser Read

A hidden synthetic object sits in the arena. Ping it from different angles. Each ping computes a line-integral projection, which the instrument back-projects into the reconstruction. With only a few angles, the image is streaked; denser angular coverage improves it. The method is computed tomography, and fidelity is measured against the known synthetic object.

As pings accumulate, a workable silhouette can emerge. The shape remains limited by the grid, bins and filter.

Per ping · the instrument back-projects a line-integral profile, with optional filtering
Fidelity · calculated from the correlation between the reconstruction and the known object
Show truth · overlay the known object to check how closely the reconstruction approaches it
More angles · few projections → streaky; a dense sweep → improved angular coverage
Resolution limit · the grid, bins and filter limit convergence; the reconstruction remains below 100% fidelity
